EclipseME… Not Dead Yet

Craig Setera — May 2, 2006 @ 9:29 pm — Status Updates, Miscellaneous

Even though it may seem that EclipseME is dead, that really is not the case. Between soccer (coaching) and switching to a new job, I’ve just been incredibly busy lately. I wish I was finding more time to dedicate to EclipseME and hope to get more time going forward. The good news is that there is still slow forward progress being made. To prove that is the case, here is a screenshot of some of the work in progress for handling some of the device fragmentation issues.

Obviously, this is very early implementation and there will likely many changes along the way. There are no guarantees when this code will become available. There are a lot of factors involved, including the fact that there is an outstanding Eclipse bug to support this functionality. That bug may imply a need to patch Eclipse code in order for any of this to work. Stay tuned going forward.

    Craig,

I’m not sure I fully appreciate what the issue with Eclipse is but have my total and unconditional support(I voted for the bug, by the way). I know how frustrating is to depend on resolution of some problem to which you have the fix and yet not have the control over actually fixing it. It, however, sounds that you could make your patch a part of the EclipseME until it becomes permanently incorporated into Eclipse proper. Or am I missing something?

Please don’t let this situation discourage you in any way. I’m sure I’m speaking for hundreds (if not thousands) of happy users of your work.

    Best regards,
    vladchuk

    vladchuk,

Thanks for the kind words. I’m definitely considering options in terms of patching the Eclipse code. Unfortunately, that is pretty painful for novice users, but that will likely be the only real option in the short term.

Wish you can continue EclipseME, I like the project. BTW, will Nokia’s collaboration with Eclipse has impact on EclipseME?

    EclipseME rules!
